Coming from Michael Mann (director of the undeniably brilliant Heat), footage from the upcoming cybercrime action/thriller Blackhat was first shown via a surprise appearance by Mann and headline actor Chris Hemsworth (best known as Thor, and last swinging the Asgardian hammer in Thor: The Dark World) at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, but Apple have just released the first official trailer for the film online (now available to view below).
Starring as convicted hacker Nicholas Hathaway, Hemsworth will spend Blackhat being recruited by a coalition of American and Chinese law enforcement agencies, in order to track down a highly efficient, havoc-wreaking, cybercrime network which appears to span the globe, and be causing chaos within financial institutions as a mere run-up to a much larger attack, with an unknown motive.
Co-starring Viola Davis (Ender’’s Game), John Oritz (Silver Linings Playbook), Wei Tang (Dragon), Spencer Garrett (Yes Man), and Jason Butler Harner (Non-Stop), Blackhat (a slang term for an illegal hacker) is due to be released on January 16th in the US, but wont make its official UK release date until February 20th 2015.
