Unlike many who have gone before him, Christian Bale has done a decent job of scoring high-profile roles, and proving himself as a solid character actor, since his turn as Batman (thanks to starring in movies such as American Hustle, Out Of The Furnace, and The Fighter), and will be hoping to continue along the same trajectory with a role in The Deep Blue Good-By.
While no deal has been reached at present, Bale is currently in talks with 20th Century Fox about the possibility of starring as Travis McGee in the studios planned adaptation of John D. McDonald’s The Deep Blue Good-By; potentially the beginning of a very lucrative franchise, as there are a total of 21 books within the author’s series.
With James Mangold (Knight and Day) due to direct the film, which will follow Floridian sleuth McGee (as he finds himself becoming entangled with a number of dangerous women and unsavoury men), there’s still no official word on when filming may start, although Bale’s potential involvement is a clear step towards bringing The Deep Blue Good-By out of development hell and towards the big screen.
Anyone who wants to see Bale on the big screen before then can do so in Ridley Scott’s upcoming Biblical epic Exodus: Gods And Kings (due to be released this December), and you can watch the official trailer here.
