Clash of the Titans 2 Gets Start Date

It’s not been long since Louis Letterrier’s (The Incredible Hulk, 2008) Clash of the Titans remake hit cinemas, even less time since it was reported that it would be getting a sequel, and the Blu-ray and DVD have yet to be released, but the sequel has already received a somewhat tentative start date.

The first film was slammed by many critics, but managed to pull in a total of over $491 million worldwide (despite the terrible, after-the-fact 3D conversion, the late-stage script alterations during production, and the fact that most of the Gods got cut from the final picture), which meant that making a sequel was a no-brainer for Warner Bros. who have given a rough start date for Clash of the Titans 2 (which was announced via a recent tweet from Production Weekly) as being February next year.

A finished script is yet to be handed in; but his being worked on by Dan Mazeau (Johnny Quest) and David Leslie Johnson (Red Riding Hood), with Greg Berlanti (Green Lantern) providing input for the treatment, which will not be directed by Louis Leterrier (the director of the first Clash), but most likely helmed by Jonathan Liebsman (Battle: Los Angeles); and as such there’s no word on which Gods will or won’t be hitting the cutting room floor this time around (although anticipating an appearance from Poseidon, who received a last minute cut from the first film, would be a fairly safe bet), but Sam Worthington (Avatar), and Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) have been reported to be reprising their roles for the second movie, which is most likely to be released in early 2012, should the Feb 2011 start date hold firm.
