With the release of the big screen Conan the Barbarian remake scheduled for next month, now is the perfect time to revisit the 1982 fantasy/adventure classic that first brought Conan to the big screen, and proved to be a massive breakthrough for action-legend Arnold Schwarzenegger (The Terminator).
Based on the classic Robert E. Howard stories, the 1982 film was written by Oliver Stone (Platoon) and writer/director John Milius (Red Dawn), and stars not only Schwarzenegger, but James Earl Jones (Star Wars), and Max Von Sydow (Robin Hood), and tells the classic tale of a barbarian who goes on a blood-fuelled quest to avenge the massacre of his entire village.
Coming to Blu-ray with improved picture and sound, and two new featurettes that have never before been available on any previous release (including an examination of the making of and importance of Conan’s sword, and a selection of newly discovered interviews originally filmed in 1982), Conan the Barbarian will be available to buy from all good Blu-ray and DVD retailers on July 11th (just over a month before the upcoming remake will hit cinemas).
