It’s been sometime since there’s been any real news breaking on the remake of the classic fantasy/adventure flick Conan the Barbarian (the original of which proved to be a significant role in the career of Arnold Schwarzenegger), but now Lionsgate have released a brand new motion poster to promote the film (which can be viewed on the left).
Like the 1982 movie, and the fantasy novels upon which it is based, the new film follows the adventures of a hulking barbarian named Conan (due to be played this time by Stargate: Atlantis’ Jason Momoa), as he goes on a quest for revenge, against the warlord who massacred his people when he was a child.
Directed by Marcus Nispel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 2003), this new incarnation of Conan will be returning to the source material, and presenting a hero that is much leaner than Arnie’s incarnation (remaining much closer to creator Robert E. Howard’s original vision of the character), when it’s released later this year.
Stephen Lang (Avatar), Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy), Rachel Nichols (Star Trek), and Rose McGowan (Charmed) will all be appearing alongside Momoa in Conan the Barbarian; which is being released in 3D and is has a release date set for both the U.S. and U.K. of August the 19th.
