Every few months the news will be overrun with nothing but stories of the latest killer virus that’s 98% guaranteed to kill every man and his dog, but Contagion; the latest film from director Steven Soderbergh (Ocean’s 11); shows how things could play out if a virus that really was that deadly, actually got out.
Boasting a cast that includes Matt Damon (The Bourne Identity), Gwyneth Paltrow (Country Strong), Kate Winslet (Titanic), Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix), Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), Marion Cotillard (Inception), and Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Contagion showcases just how easily a virulent virus could spread across the globe, and focusses on a number of different people as they try to escape it, cure it, and tell the world about it.
Soderbergh’s bird-flu thriller (which looks to take the idea of Outbreak to a whole new level) unfortunately won’t be rolled out for worldwide release as quickly as the film’s virus spreads; as it’s due to be released in the US on September 9th, but won’t make it onto cinema screens in the UK until October 21st.
