Following its premiere at the Telluride Film Festival a couple of weeks back, a second Steve Jobs trailer has been released. The film is the next Steve Jobs biopic to be made after 2013’s Jobs, which was described by an Apple employee to be “the biggest, flashiest piece of fan fiction that there’s been to date.” But this new retelling looks to be a lot more honest than its 2013 counterpart, and features what looks like a committed performance by Michael Fassbender.
Steve Jobs will take a more serious look at the accomplishments of the man, as well as his personal strife with his wife and daughter. The biopic looks like it will focus a lot more on the developments he made on Mac the computers in the 1980s, and will also examine the rivalries he had with other tech companies.
Danny Boyle will direct a script by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network), and features a star-studded supporting cast: Kate Winslet plays Joanna Hoffman, one of the original founders of the Mac; Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Inc.; Jeff Daniels as John Sculley, a former Apple CEO; and Katherine Waterston plays Chrisann Brennan, the mother of Jobs’ daughter Lisa.
The festival buzz coming from the film is overwhelmingly positive, with a lot of the praise going to Fassbender’s performance and Sorkin’s script, although some reviewers are still criticising that Steve Jobs is still too worshipping of its central character. Fassbender has already appeared in a couple of critically acclaimed films this year, with many talking about his chance at an Oscar after his performance in Justin Kurzel’s Macbeth.
Steve Jobs will see a wide release in the US on October 23, before hitting UK theatres on November 13.
