Continuing a current trend of movie titles that are either increasingly dull, or give no clues to what the film is about, Tarantula (which falls into the latter category, as the plot isn’t remotely concerned with hairy spiders; unlike Arachnophobia, which was a perfect title for the classic movie) is moving ahead in terms of production, and attracting the attention of one or two fairly recognizable stars.
The film itself focuses on the efforts of a young woman (who may be played by Bitch Slap’s Erin Cummings, who’s currently in negotiations for the role) who’s past of a large outlaw motorcycle gang, not dissimilar from SAMCRO; the gang seen in Kurt Sutter’s brilliant FX drama Sons of Anarchy; but decides to leave, and forge a new life for herself.
But, just as is the case in any film or TV show that features an outlaw biker gang, mafia outfit, or other criminal fraternity, she soon discovers that leaving the life won’t exactly be straight forward; as not only will she have to make a pretty big lifestyle change, but avoid the biker boss, who’s attempting to hunt her down, and avenge the death of his brother.
Danny Trejo (Machete); who seems like the perfect choice for an outlaw biker (not only because of past acting experience, but his real-life criminal history), and guest star on Sons of Anarchy; is currently in talks to lead Tarantula, and appear as the biker boss hunting the film’s heroine.
Oley Sassone; the man responsible for the, now collectible, 1994 version of The Fantastic Four; is attached to direct the film; which has been written by first time script writers John and Jennifer Kersey, who are also producing the picture on a modest budget of $2.5 million, and hoping to start filming in Detroit, this coming November.
