Writer/director Christopher Nolan has long been an advocate of the IMAX format (which, using film twice the size of the classic 35mm film, produces vastly superior picture quality; and looks simply fantastic), and it looks like his latest movie, the finale in his Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises will continue to endorse the format; by including over an hour of IMAX footage.
While it’s not in the least bit surprising that Nolan has once again filmed in IMAX (as he’s stated his intention to do so on several occasions), the sheer amount of IMAX footage that’s made it into the final cut is staggering and, given The Dark Knight featured full IMAX footage for its major action scenes (including the bank heist, rocket-launcher scene, and truck flip), suggests The Dark Knight Rises will feature one hell of a lot of action.
Tom Hardy (Warrior) and Anne Hathaway (Alice in Wonderland) are the newcomers causing trouble for Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne/Batman this time around (as Bane and Catwoman respectively), and will be appearing alongside a number of returning faces (Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Morgan Freeman among them), and welcome franchise-firsts (such as Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard – both of whom worked with Nolan on Inception), when The Dark Knight Rises is released on July 20th in both the US and UK.
