Deadpool Test Footage Leaked Online

UPDATE:

A surge of positive reaction to the leaked Deadpool test footage (available to view below) has now led to 20th Century Fox officially considering commissioning a Deadpool film. It’s still far from an announcement (it’s still not green lit), and Fox are only considering a PG-13 script, and not an R-rated one, though Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld states “an R-rated version is not a consideration and hasn’t been for years” as “the PG-13 rating now allows for truckloads of violence and edgy themes” and “you can always pad a DVD release with R cuts.”

Deadpool

While it’s been gestating for several years, last weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con gave fans the first official look at the planned Deadpool movie; via a short, largely CGI, piece of test footage featuring the voice of Ryan Reynolds as the sword-wielding, swear-happy, 4th-wall-breaking superhero Deadpool; and you can now view the Deadpool test footage below.

Remaining part of the ‘in development’ pile over at Fox for so long largely due to the fact big studios find it hard to believe there’s enough of a market to successfully sell an R-rated superhero movie (especially one as quirky as Deadpool), and preferring to settle for the more family-friendly PG-13 superhero flicks (such as the fantastic X-Men: Days of Future Past), since the test footage hit the web there has been a hugely positive reaction from fans who seriously want to watch a Deadpool movie, providing director Tim Miller with a little extra ammo to show the studio it is wanted.

Many a Deadpool fan loathed the way the character was presented in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (though to be fair most X-Men fans didn’t really rate the movie in general), and Ryan Reynolds himself, who’s been an advocate of trying to get a Deadpool movie made, and would love the chance to continue playing the cocky character, believes he do much more justice to the comic-book hero given the right setting.

So far, it’s still a no-go. Deadpool hasn’t been green-lit, and we’re unlikely to see a Deadpool movie anytime soon, though with those involved clearly being serious about giving it their all and getting the film made, and the clear fan support for not only a Deadpool movie, but Ryan Reynolds returning to the role, there’s more of a chance than ever it could get picked up.

Here however we’re less convinced it could work, as maintaining the same level of attitude, constant 4th wall breaks, and immense humour/violence would be extremely difficult for a full movie, and instead we’d love to see a whole bunch of Deadpool short-films (like the clip below) produced and bundled in-front of existing Marvel movies… if only they’d allow R-rated shorts to accompany PG-13 films.
