Fans were left wanting in 2006 when HBO abruptly cancelled its fantastic western drama series Deadwood, and left a great deal of major plot threads open. There was talk of a TV movie or two being used to tie up the loose ends and give fans a more satisfactory end to the show, though they were never produced, and it ultimately looked as though Deadwood was gone forever.
Not so…. as, confirming rumours which began to circulate last year, HBO has now confirmed they have green-lit a Deadwood movie.
So far it’s not clear who from the original cast will return (though fans would obviously like to see Timothy Olyphant, Ian McShane, Molly Parker, Powers Boothe, and Robin Weigert among others), or exactly how and when the Deadwood film will take place, but we do know series creator David Milch is in charge, and extremely keen to see Deadwood return.
HBO President Michael Lombardo said “David has our commitment that we are going to do it, I’ve known him for a while and it feels like it’s something he’s not done talking about. He pitched what he thought generally the storyline would be — and knowing David, that could change. But it’s going to happen.”
Milch will begin working on Deadwood once he’s finished with another so-far unnamed project.
