There have been a few rumours flying around regarding who would be playing the titular Lone Ranger in Disney’s planned big screen adaptation of the classic western, and we now know that The Social Network’s Armie Hammer has official signed on board to climb into the saddle, and play the part of the masked hero.
Starring as The Lone Ranger in the Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) directed movie will place Armie alongside Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides); who has been attached for sometime, to appear as the Ranger’s Native American sidekick Tonto.
We still don’t have a confirmed start date for the picture, but filming will likely not begin until late next year at the earliest, or possibly even 2013; as The Lone Ranger isn’t due to be released until 2014; meaning that even though Hammer has officially signed on, there could still be a number of changes between now, and the time audiences actually here the masked do-gooder shout the immortal word “Hi Yo Silver! Away!”
