Director Quentin Tarantino has made no secret of the fact that he is a big fan of the classic Spaghetti Western movies, and desires to one day film his own similarly themed western; an idea which has led to many rumours, speculations, and now an official confirmation of his next movie; Django Unchained.
With the title being confirmed as Django Unchained (thanks to a leaked script cover-page) it’s likely Tarantino’s new movie will take inspiration from Sergio Corbucci’s Spaghetti Western Django, which starred Franco Nero; a man who has already spoken of his involvement with Tarantino’s upcoming western (despite getting the title wrong).
No real plot details have been leaked as yet, although we do now that as well as Frank Nero being attached, Christoph Waltz (who worked with Tarantino on Inglorious Basterds) is up for a part, and there are also rumours (originating from Nero) that Keith Carradine (the Deadwood actor who gave an unforgettable appearance as Wild bill Hickok, and will soon be seen in Cowboys & Aliens) and Treat Williams (127 Hours) may also land roles in the film.
Entring production under the guise of Pulp Fiction producer Stacey Sher, Django Unchained is due to begin filming later this year (with reports suggesting both Italy and Spain as shooting locations); either late this summer, or during the autumn (depending on cast availability); ahead of an unconfirmed release date that could see the movie in theatres next year, or certainly by 2013.
