While the Judge Dredd reboot (simply titled Dredd) may not have set the Box Office alight, it was an enjoyable enough affair (though essentially just another version of action epic The Raid), captured the heart of many a 2000AD fan, and has sparked a huge online campaign to gain a Dredd sequel; something which star Karl Urabn recently hinted at.
Speaking to a German audience, at a Destination Star Trek event (regarding his role in that successfully rebooted sci-fi franchise), Urban was recently asked if there was any movement on a second Dredd movie, and, although he couldn’t officially announce anything, Urban did state that certain “conversations” had been taking place regarding him stepping behind the mask once more.
While “conversations” are far from official, it’s enough to fan the flames of fan-hope everywhere, and suggests that while the Box Office may not have yielded the potential returns Lionsgate were hoping for (something which Urban blames partially on poor marketing), the home releases, and fan campaigns, have proved a strong enough draw for the studio and producers to at least consider pushing ahead with a potential sequel; something which Urban himself remains hopeful for.
