He recently attempted to save California (or at least save his daughter while California collapsed around him) in San Andreas, and soon will be tackling an entirely different kind of disaster pic; as Dwayne Johnson is now confirmed to be starring in the upcoming adaptation of Midway’s classic video game Rampage.
For those who don’t know/pretend they can’t remember, Rampage saw players controlling a variety of giant monsters (a giant gorilla, lizard, or werewolf)and traversing through a side-scrolling environment which saw them smashing buildings, tanks, helicopters, and squishing any puny humans who tried to interfere with said destructive appetites, and now Non-Stop co-writer Ryan Engle has twisted the formula into a feature film for New Line (the same studio who released Johnson’s recent disaster flick San Andreas).
There’s little known yet about who The Rock (Johnson) will be playing (monster, saviour, unfortunate chomp-ee?), how the plot will transfer to the big screen (though the “experiments lead to giant terrorising monsters” story does have a decidedly Godzilla feel to it), or even who will direct the Rampage movie, but it appears New Line is certainly keen to keep the disaster coming (hardly surprising as San Andreas has already grossed over $400 million, from a $100 million budget).
