Former professional wrestler turned action star, turned kids movie hero, Dwayne Johnson (formerly known as The Rock) has been making a return to more hard hitting action roles of late (beginning with Faster, and continuing through the latest Fast & Furious instalment), and looks to continue the trend; as he’s currently in negotiations to headline an action thriller called Snitch.
Based on a true story that first aired as a TV documentary, Snitch follows a father who’s distraught at the idea of his teenage son facing 30 years in jail (for a mandatory drug charge), and takes the courageous but unusual step of agreeing to go undercover and bust a major drug dealer, in order to lower his sons sentence.
First acquired by New Line back in 2006, Snitch has been a long-gestating movie that’s seen at least one director come and go, but is now under the control of writer/director Ric Roman Waugh (Felon); who will be re-drafting the Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road) script, and hoping to begin filming in June.
