Vacation star Ed Helms, and Ted 2‘s Amanda Seyfried have just signed on to star in The Clapper; the upcoming comedy from Man Down director Dito Montiel, which is actually being adapted from Montiel’s own novel.
Helms will star as titular ‘clapper’ Eddie Krumble; an audience member for hire who’s job sees him applauding a number of truly awful shows, and leads to him being singled out from an audience by a talk show host before his 15 minutes of fame end up turning his life upside down.
Jay Leno was the talk show host mentioned in the book, though there’s no confirmation if we’ll see Leno in the film, or someone else playing a fictional host. Seyfried however will be playing Judy; a gas station attendant who provides the romantic interest for Krumble when The Clapper is eventually released. As of yet though, there’s no start date, and Montiel’s novel isn’t even available in the UK.
