Eddie Murphy Wants Beverly Hills Cop TV Series

While the rumours began to fly a few years back, and fans once again became excited that the fast-talking, fun-loving, detective Axel Foley would be able to reclaim his iconic theme tune from that soul-destroying bastard known as Crazy Frog; by bringing star Eddie Murphy back for a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie; it now appears as if the franchise is headed in a new direction, and may be entering the land of TV.

Talking about a possible fourth film, Murphy recently told Rolling Stone “they’re not doing it”, but that he is “trying to produce a TV show starring Axel Foley’s son, where Axel is the chief of police in Detroit” because “none of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise, and if you have to force something, you shouldn’t be doing it; it was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong.”

Eddie also appears to be enjoying his life as a “semiretired gentleman of leisure”, and isn’t looking to get the TV show up and running in order to give himself regular work, but stated that he’d “do the pilot, and show up here and there” but nothing more, as aside from presenting the Oscars next year, he’s able to “only do what I really want to do”, and will simply be taking on a few film projects (which will not include any family-friendly films) “to break the boredom up.”
