Adapted from the novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka (and itself known as All You Need Is Kill for a long time), the Edge of Tomorrow is a sci-fi/action movie with a difference; bringing Groundhog-Day to a futuristic war-scape, and forcing Tom Cruise to relive the same combat mission over and over, until it always, eventually, and inevitably, leads to his death; as seen in the official Edge of tomorrow trailer below (following a gallery of stills from the film).
Cruise (Mission Impossible) stars as soldier Bill Cage, a man who generally stays out of the fray when it comes to battling the alien life forms with which he is at war (instead handling the military’s PR campaign), but accidentally finds himself thrust into the chaos of battle (in some rather nifty looking battle armour), dying, waking up, and proceeding to use his special talent in order to do the same. Again, and again.
Emily Blunt (Looper) co-stars as poster-girl Rita Vrataski (Cruise’s trainer), and the pair will be joined by Laura Pulver (Sherlock), Bill Paxton (Aliens), Jeremy Piven (Entourage), and Jonas Armstrong (BBC’s Robin Hood), when the film is released on June 6th in the US, following the Edge of Tomorrow official UK release date of May 30th.
