After the biggest film event in the UK; Empire Presents – Big Screen; kicked off on Friday night with the fantastic, star-studded premiere of Jon Favreau’s (Iron Man) Cowboys & Aliens, things opened up on Saturday for the general public, and began with a world exclusive trailer for the upcoming Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray (now available to view below).
Now it goes without saying that the picture quality is amazing (and it was ripe for scrutiny; after being presented on a top quality 103 inch TV), and effectively makes the original trilogy look like a brand new set of movies (bar a couple of now easier to spot sfx shots); easily capable of standing up to the visuals presented in the newer prequel trilogy.
Fans of the franchise will also be pleased to know that this will be the most comprehensive Star Wars set ever released, and features a whole range of extras that have never been seen before, and will both amaze and astound even the hardiest Star Wars affictionado.
Though a first look at the trailer wasn’t the only thing fans were treated to this morning, as present for the big reveal were not only executives from Fox and Panasonic (who have teamed with Fox to giveaway the Original Star Wars Trilogy on Blu-ray, to anyone who purchases one of their newer TV’s, Blu-ray players, or Home Theatre Systems, while stocks last), but Star Wars producer Robert Watts, stunt choreographer Nick Gillard, Jeremy Bulloch (best known as Boba Fett), and C-3PO himself; Anthony Daniels.
The panel spoke of everything from their favourite moments working on the franchise; including having to run from the Tatooine set before the ground in Tunisia literally washed away, falling off a stage, costume reveals, and more; to their preferred order to view the films (a unanimous vote for beginning with the prequels), who they would have played given the choice, and their feelings on the upcoming 3D re-release; in which the word “hate” was used to describe the format, Avatar was called “average”, and there didn’t seem to be a single positive reaction from any of the panelists.
Both the Original Trilogy and the Prequel Trilogy, as well as the Complete Saga (which comes with that illustrious bonus disc not found on the other releases) are due to be released on September 12th in the UK, and on September 16th in the US, but if the announcement of a Hi-Definition set alone isn’t enough to get you pre-ordering, you can view the new Star Wars Blu-ray trailer below.
