Action fans the world over were shocked and horrified to learn that the sequel to 2010’s extremely well received, throwback, action movie The Expendables was going to receive a PG-13 rating, though a couple of recent rumours have suggested Expendables 2 will go down the same route as the first film and receive the much more action-friendly R-Rating; something which returning star Dolph Lundgren has recently confirmed.
Apparently bowing to pressure from Chuck Norris (the Delta Force star who’s joining the impressive action ensemble for the sequel) it was reported that Sylvester Stallone (star and creator of the franchise) had been trying to get Expendables 2 passed as a PG-13, but recently said it looks more like it’ll be an R-Rated movie; something Lundgren confirmed by saying “I heard that it’s now R again.”
Dolph continued to say that “Stallone’s basic setting is to make it very violent. That’s just in his personality, and if it was me I would do the same. I guess the producers figure they can make another $50m if it’s PG-13, and if it was my money I might say the same thing! But I think for the fans, if it’s tougher it’s better.”
Expendables 2 has been directed by The Mechanic’s Simon West, stars both Stallone and Lundgren, alongside Norris, Jean Claude Van Damme (Timecop), Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), and returning stars Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, and Randy Couture, and is due to be released on August 17th in both the US and UK.
