Avatar star Sam Worthington has been attached to star in The Last Days of American Crime; a big screen adaptation of Rick Remender’s graphic novel of the same name; since 2009 (before the books had even been published, and when there was no director attached), but now it looks as i he may actually get to star in the movie, as it’s recently signed a director in F Gary Gray (Law Abiding Citizen).
Oblivion re-writer Karl Gajdusek has just been brought in to write a new draft of the American Crime script; which takes place in a near-future world where the American government are on the brink of turning on a broadcast signal that will effectively urn of the part of the brain that gives citizens the impulse to commit crime, leading a career criminal to plan the last ever heist in US history, on the last night crime is possible.
There’s no word on a shooting schedule or release date as yet (partially because the rights are planned to be sold at Cannes this week), although it looks as f this will be project to watch; seen as how IM Global founder Stuart Ford describes it as not only “powerful and iconic” but a film that can “bring something fresh to the noir universe, and become an explosive action feature film.”
