Despite being highly praised, and telling the tale of what is believed to be one of the most important espionage events in human history, Farewell; the 2009 French film from director Christian Carion (Merry Christmas); has only just crossed over the Channel, but will soon be released on Blu-ray and DVD.
Loosely based around the actions of KGB official Vladimir Vetrov, Farewell has been adapted from Serguei Jostine’s book Bonjour Farewell: La verite sur la taupe francaise du KGB, and follows a KGB agent who’s become disillusioned with the Soviet regime, and so decides to pass a list of active Soviet spies (operating in the West) onto the French President; a decision which leads to a lowly French engineer becoming embroiled in an intercontinental conspiracy, US President Ronald getting involved, and the eventual downfall of communist Russia.
Farewell stars Guillaume Canet (The Beach), Diane Kruger (Inglorious Basterds), Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man), and Fred Ward (Tremors), and will be released in the UK, on Blu-ray and DVD, on August 29th, but anyone looking to get an early look at the film can now see the official trailer below.
