Fast Five: First Photo

Whilst not a single film in the Fast and the Furious franchise has gained much in the way of critical acclaim, all four movies have been extremely high grossers at the Box Office; meaning that the announcement of Fast Five (a fifth film in the series) didn’t come as too much of a surprise to anyone.

Supposedly the final chapter in the franchise, Fast Five takes its place chronologically as the fourth film in the series (slotting in between Fast & Furious, and Tokyo Drift), and sees ex-cop Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker, Running Scared) once again teaming up with the hot-headed racer Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel, The Chronicles of Riddick), as they go on the run from a corrupt business man who’s just gagging to have them killed, and a newly appointed federal agent.

Joaquim de Almedia (Desperado) stars as the corrupt businessman, with series newcomer Dwayne Johnson (Faster) picking up the part of federal agent Luke Hobbs; something which director Justin Lin (the director of Tokyo Drift) feels was “amazing”, as everyone “thought it would be impossible to get Dwayne.”

Fast Five aims to cram in more cars, action, and explosions, than ever before, as Lin  has said that “if you’re going to do a Fast and Furious movie, you’ve got to go bigger each time”; a statement echoed by Johnson, who’s “always loved the franchise” because of the way “they never stop trying to up the action.”

Fast Five is due to be release on April 29th in the U.S., but won’t be making its way over to the U.K. until June 10th, although the first official photo from the picture has now been released (and can be viewed above, or in full size below), and the official trailer is due out next Tuesday.
