After recently appearing in several family oriented films (such as The Tooth Fairy, Race to Witch Mountain, Get Smart and Planet 51), Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is returning to his acting roots; not by rejoining the world of professional wrestling, but by releasing a more serious and adult themed action movie; in the form of the upcoming film Faster.
Faster follows Johnson’s character Driver as he finishes a ten year stretch in prison; after a botched bank heist left him incarcerated, and his brother bleeding to death at the scene; and begins his quest to find the men he holds responsible for his brothers death, and send them each hurtling towards an early grave.
It’s been toted by the cast and crew as a return to the style of ‘70s thriller movies (such as The French Connection), and stars Billy Bob Thornton (Bad Santa) as a veteran cop who’s determined to prevent Driver from completing his vengeful rampage, and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Going the Distance) as an egotistical young assassin who’s also vying to lay the smackdown on Driver before his exacts his revenge, as are the many enemies he made whilst in prison.
Faster is currently in post-production, and slated for a November 19th release in the U.S., while U.K. film fans will have to wait until next February to get a peek, but for those who are intrigued by the idea of watching The Rock drive a muscle car, carry a big gun, and storm the country in a vengeful rampage (that reads at first like a slightly grittier version of Walking Tall), the first teaser trailer of Faster can be seen below.
