Officially celebrating the 75th anniversary of The Joker’s first ever comic book appearance (on April 25th, 1940), director David Ayer (Fury) has just released the official first look at Jared Leto as The Joker in the upcoming DC super-villain mashup movie Suicide Squad.
An image ripe for tonnes of praise and criticism alike (having been criticised for the punk/Marilyn Manson vibe, yet praised for the numerous comic book touches) this first-look tells us little, if anything, about the film or what Leto’s Joker will actually be like when he joins the ranks of fellow super-villains Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie, Focus), Deadshot (Will Smith, Focus), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman, Child 44), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney, Insurgent), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne, Anna Karenina), Killer Croc (Adele Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Thor: The Dark World), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez, Takers), Plastique (Karen Fukuhara), and Deathstroke (Jim Parrack, True Blood).
Also co-starring Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor (following his first appearance as the character in the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice), Viola Davis (The Help) as Amanda Waller, and both Common (Hell on Wheels) and Scott Eastwood (Fury) in unconfirmed roles, Suicide Squad is due to be released on August 5th 2016 in both the US and UK.
As always, let us know what you think of the new Joker, and the prospects for the upcoming Suicide Squad as a whole, in the comments section below.
