The first trailer for The Big Short has arrived, a film that follows a pack of men who made money off the 2008 financial crisis, and is based on a true story. The movie also has a stellar cast, with Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling and Steve Carrell just a few of the big names.
The Big Short is based on the book The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine by Michael Lewis. The aforementioned actors play a group of investors who made a lot of money through sketchy dealings with money-hungry banking firms like Citigroup and Goldman Sachs. Bale stars as Michael Burry, who predicts the oncoming economic disaster, but is initially dismissed by industry insiders. Burry comes across Pitt, Gosling, and Carrell’s characters, who are more sympathetic to his cause and they create a scheme to rip off the banks who are ripping off everybody else.
Directing will be Adam McKay, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Charles Randolph. Also starring is Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy), Rafe Spall (Prometheus), Melissa Leo (The Fighter) and Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler). The Big Short will hit US theatres on Christmas Day, with UK dates yet to be announced.
