James Wan, director of Furious 7 (which made over $1.5 billion at the box office) is set to produce a Mortal Kombat feature for New Line Cinema.
On board to pen the script is Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) and Dave Callaham (The Expendables). This will be the third Mortal Kombat cinematic release, the first being Paul W.S. Anderson’s 1995 adaptation followed by its sequel, Annihilation, in 1997.
Wan is the renowned director behind hit horror films Insidious and The Conjuring. After the release of the second Insidious movie, Wan took a break from the darker stuff to direct the seventh entry into the Fast and Furious franchise, and is also slated to direct DC’s Aquaman, which is set for a 2018 release.
