While the fourth Terminator movie may not have been the Salvation the series need to kickstart a second trilogy, the enduring popularity of the Skynet’s killing machines have ensured that we’ve not seen the last of The Terminator‘s; especially as we’ve recently learned that Emilia Clarke has just been cast as the new Sarah Connor.
Best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s Game of Thrones, Emilia will be stepping into the role first made famous by Linda Hamilton (before Emilia’s GOT co-star Lena Headey inhabited the role in the short-lived Tv series, The Sarah Connor Chronicles) for the upcoming reboot; currently known as Terminator: Genesis.
It’s hoped that Genesis will be the first step in both launching a new trilogy of films, and spreading The Terminator legacy into a new TV series (all depending on the performance of the first movie); something which will put considerable pressure on both writers Patrick Lussier (Shutter Island) and Laeta Kalogridis (Drive Angry), and director Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World).
Last Stand star, original Terminator, and series figurehead Arnold Schwarzenegger will also be returning (though it’s not yet known in exactly what capacity), and joined by the recently cast Lawless star Jason Clarke (who’ll be taking on the role of John Connor), in the new movie which is still shrouded in relative secrecy plot-wise, but due to be release on June 28th 2015.
