While best known for her turn as the rather unlucky Sansa Stark in HBO’s fantastic Game Of Thrones series, and recently seen in the music video for Bastille’s Oblivion, Sophie Turner has just claimed the lead in the intriguing thriller Mary Shelley’s Monster.
A new tale based on the life of the Frankenstein writer, who first published Frankenstein anonymously, aged only 21, after marrying Percy Bysshe Shelley, Mary Shelley’s Monster will see Turner playing the author as she works on her seminal novel, and battles her own alter ego; offering literary fame at a high personal cost.
Producer Rose Ganguzza inists “our film is not a period drama” and that it is “the story of the most extraordinary 19th century teenage heroine, told in a visceral, sexy, contemporary way”, being “a story of yout that transcends time, a gothic romance, a love triangle that involves a dark passenger”, and adds how thilled that are to have “such an exciting cast onboard this wonderful project.”
Due to be directed by Coky Giedroyc (who’s previously directed episodes of The Killing, and Penny Dreadful), Mary Shelley’s Monster will see Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) star as Percy Shelley, and Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story) co-star as Mary’s stepsister Clairmont, when filming begins later this year (in both the UK, and Malta), ahead of an as yet unannounced release date.
