It’d been rumoured for sometime, but now X-Men director Bryan Singer has confirmed that Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner (best known as Sansa Stark) has been cast in the upcoming mutant superhero movie X-Men: Apocalypse, and is due to take on the coveted role of a young Jean Grey.
Originally played by Famke Janssen (last seen in Taken 3) in the original X-Men trilogy, the young Jean will be appearing alongside a young Scott Summers/Cyclops (due to be played by Mud’s Tye Sheridan), and a young Ororo Munroe/Storm (Alexandra Shipp, Aaliyah), in the upcoming film which will be a direct sequel to last year’s X-Men: Days Of Future Past; an impressive movie which has potentially altered the entirety of the X-Men cinematic universe.
It’s still unclear how large a role each of the three will take in the 1980s based movie; as a good deal of screen-time will need to be based around not only series regulars/favourites Professor Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), but the new villain Apocalypse (due to be played by Ex_Machina’s Oscar Isaac); though we do know filming is set to begin soon, ahead of a planned UK release on May 19th 2016, and an official US release date of May 27th 2016.
