With it’s lead actor already in place, director Dean Devlin (best known for producing blockbusters such as Stargate, 1998’s Godzilla, and Independence Day) has been busy filling the supporting roles for his upcoming sci-fi/thriller Geostorm, and has just added a host of names to the cast list; including Abbie Cornish (RoboCop), Jim Sturgess (The Way Back), and Ed Harris (Pain & Gain).
Headlining Geostorm as a satellite designer tasked with fixing things when a number of weather-controlling satellites start to play up (threatening to cause the largest, and worst, storm the world has ever seen), Gerard Butler (last heard in How to Train Your Dragon 2, and seen in Olympus Has Fallen) will see Sturgess playing his on screen brother, and Ed Harris starring as the Secretary of State, while Abbie Cornish picks up the part of a secret service agent attached to Sturgess. Both involved as the storm isn’t the problem problem facing the group; there’s also, naturally, a plot to assassinate the president (portrayed by Ocean’s Eleven’s Andy Garcia).
With filming due to begin in New Orleans this coming October, Geostorm is currently scheduled for a March 26 release in the UK, though no official US release date has been announced as yet (other than the year; 2016).
