UK fans of J.J. Abrams (Alias) Television phenomenon Lost; the show that baffled audiences across the globe by placing the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 (which crashed on its way from Sydeny to L.A.) on a desert island populated with polar bears, smoke monsters, secret bunkers, and ‘others’; which had its final season air earlier this year, is not only soon to be released on Blu-ray and DVD, but will be the subject of the UK’s first ever public TV marathon.
The Prince Charles Cinema, in London’s Leicester Square, is hosting the event that’s being billed as “the ultimate challenge” for Lost fans, and inviting fans of the series to come along and watch all 121 episodes from the shows six season run, in a back-to-back marathon of over 80 hours worth of continuous viewing.
Fans are being encouraged to attend dressed as their favourite character from the series, as well as to bring along sleeping bags, pillows, and packed lunches, as the event will be continuing constantly over 24 hour periods; beginning on Monday the 13th of September, and continuing through until the showing of the series finale on the afternoon of Thursday September 16th (provided the marathon is completed successfully).
Director of the Prince Charles Cinema; Gregory Lynn; has said that he’s “thrilled to host such an exciting event, and looks forward to keeping the cinema running all day and night for as long as it takes!” with every attendee scrabbling to be the “last fan standing” in the unprecedented event.
Regulated breaks will be permitted (and probably needed to ensure that circulation continues, and the onset of mould is held back somewhat), and there will be paramedics standing by on site, should the need for medical assistance arise during the three day TV binge.
A Lost goody bag (which is apparently “packed full of merchandise”) will also be awarded to each attendee, regardless of how long they eventually last (as any participant will be free to leave at any point during the screening), although they will still be fairly sought after, as the Prince Charles venue doesn’t have a limitless supply of seats, and can only permit the first 280 entrants through the door (with even pre-registering attendance not guaranteeing a seat).
Doors to the cinema will be opening at 9am on the 13th, for a 10am start, but as the recent press releases states that “hoards of dedicated followers are expected to descend upon Leicester Square” it may be advisable to get there a little earlier, to ensure a place, and attend the TV marathon that should be the ultimate high for Lost fans, and the perfect way to celebrate the release of the Blu-ray and DVD release of Lost’s final season, and the complete series box-set (which is being released on September 13th; the same day the marathon begins).
