Below we have the first image of Scarlett Johansson as Kusanagi from the upcoming live-action Ghost In The Shell remake.
Snow White and The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders has the unenviable task of adapting the film from the hugely successful, cult-hit, manga and anime film series, and is likely to receive a fierce backlash from fans over a number of issues; not least of which involves peppering an adaptation of a distinctly Japanese piece of culture with western actors.
Still, there’s no denying Johansson looks the part; playing a special ops cyborg, she’s the leader of an elite group known as Section 9, who are responsible for stopping extremely dangerous criminals and terrorists, now targeting The Laughing Man who’s dedicated to destroying the technology created by her employer Hanka Robotics.
Due to co-star Pilou Asbæk (Lucy), Michael Pitt (Criminal), Juliette Binoche (Godzilla), and Michael Wincott (The Crow), Ghost In The Shell is currently filming in Wellington, New Zealand, and is due to be released on March 31st next year.
