Adapted from a series of LA Times articles detailing the work of 1940s police officers who were dedicated to stamping out corruption and ending the careers of numerous mobsters in Los Angeles, The Gangster Squad is due to be directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), and has just added another name to its already impressive cast-list; Giovanni Ribisi.
Ribis is known for playing memorable supporting roles (including turns in Avatar, and Saving Private Ryan), and will join the period drama as Conway Keeler; a cop who is a master of electronics; alongside the already cast Sean Penn (Milk), Ryan Gosling (Fracture), Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker), Josh Brolin (True Grit), and Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad).
As Fleischer is currently busy promoting 30 Minutes or Less, there’s still no official start date for The Gangster Squad, though pre-production is in full swing, and following a few more casting announcements, production should begin shortly; in order to meet the film’s scheduled 2013 release.
