Scripted by Evan Goldberg (Superbad) and Jay Baruchel (How to Train Your Dragon), Goon looks to contain everything a decent hockey movie should (aside from the obligatory use of Queen’s ‘We Are The Champions’); including ice, blood, Canadians, swearing, and its fair share of fights; and has just had its Red Band trailer released online (now available to view below).
Seann William Scott (American Pie) headlines the cast as a bouncer who’s generally looked down upon by his family, but ends up getting a swift kick into the limelight; thanks to an impressive head-butt (directed at a helmeted hockey player) which leads a local coach to hire him as an enforcer (despite the fact he can barely skate).
Goon co-stars Jay Baruchel, Liev Schreiber (Wolverine), Alison Pill (Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World), Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy), and Eugene Levy (American Pie), has been directed by Take Me Home Tonight’s Michael Dowse, and is due to be released in the US on March 30th (though it’ll be available on-demand from February 24th), but doesn’t yet have a UK release date secured.
