Indie starlet Greta Gerwig (Frances Ha) will get her first chance at writing and directing her own film with Lady Bird, a screenplay she wrote which will be financed by IAC Films.
Details on the film are sparse at the moment, but the feature will follow a woman’s last year in Sacramento after she decides on a move from the city. Scott Rudin (No Country For Old Men), Eli Bush (The Grand Budapest Hotel) and Evelyn O’Neill will be producing, and will begin shooting in March.
Gerwig has showcased her writing talents before, having co-written the script of the Golden Globe-nominated Frances Ha (which she also starred in) with Noah Baumbach. Mistress America, the comedy also written by the pair and directed by Baumbach, premiered at Sundance back in January, and will see a wider release on August 14.
