After recently casting Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam as the legendary King Arthur, Guy Ritchie’s medieval action/fantasy movie Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur seems to be taking shape, as he’s just hired a young actress to play Arthur’s Queen Guinevere; none other than Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ mermaid Astrid Berges-Frisbey.
Hunnam’s Pacific Rim co-star Idris Elba is still in talks to play the young king’s mentor Sir Bedivere, although there’s no word on who will star as Lancelot (Arthur’s best friend, first knight, and the man who also happens to have an affair with Arthur’s Queen), or the rest of the knights of the roundtable.
We also know very little about the plot at this stage (the infamous affair may not even feature), though we do know Warner Bros. is hoping this film could be first in a new franchise of up to six films; the stories for which have been planned out by Edge of Tomorrow producer Joby Harold (who’s scripted the first film).
Looking to continue his successful relationship with Warner Bros. (following the success of the Sherlock Holmes movies), Guy Ritchie will be directing Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur himself, and working toward a July 22nd 2016 release date (in both the US and UK).
