We’ve had our fair share of fairytale re-imaginings recently; with everything from Red Riding Hood, and Sleeping Beauty, to Snow White returning to the big screen much darker than the children’s tales we’re used to (the latter of which has just been released on Blu-ray and DVD); and it appears as if they’re still coming, as Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters recently had its first trailer released online (now available to view below).
Starring Jeremy Renner (The Avengers – also just released on Blu-ray and DVD) and Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) as the titular couple, the new Hansel & Gretel movie follows on from where the classic tale left off, and sees the sibling duo grow-up after escaping their close-call with the witch in the gingerbread house, and dedicating their adult lives to tracking and killing every witch in existence.
Needless to say, when Hansel & Gretel settle into their latest job, everything is not as it seems, and they’ll end up getting much more than they bargained for in the DW Harper (best known as the production manger of Jet Li’s The One) written, Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow) directed, movie which is due to be released on January 11th in the US, but won’t make its official UK release date until March 15th 2013.
