Starring professional MMA fighter Gina Carano, the upcoming action/thriller from Ocean’s Elven director Steven Soderbergh; Haywire; tells the tale of a betrayed special operations agent who’s out on a quest for vengeance, and has just had it’s first trailer released online (which can now be seen below).
And while it’s a story we’ve seen time and again, it’s not only one that continues to draw a crowd, but one that looks to be brilliantly pulled off here, thanks in large part to the superb action; something which Soderbergh was especially keen on; as after seeing Carano fighting on TV he decided to build a film around her abilities, and created a film where the female character performs all of the action “for real; no doubles, no cutting away.”
And while that makes the fight scenes “shorter than you’re probably used to seeing in a movie”, they should all look superb (particularly as Carano went as far as knocking someone out during rehearsals, kicking Channing Tatum’s ass; as explained at Comic-Con by the Fighting star; and even hitting so hard the other actor’s “pads weren’t a lot of help), and will be padded out with a number of engaging scenes that are peppered with big-name actors.
Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class), Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting), Antonio Banderas (Assassins), Michael Douglas (Wall Street), and Bill Paxton (Twister) will all be starring alongside the first time actor Carano in the action-heavy thriller that’s due to be released on January 20th in the US, but doesn’t have a confirmed UK release date as yet.
