Despite performing less well than the original domestically (How To Train Your Dragon 2 has so far grossed $174 million in the US, compared to $277 million for the first film), How To Train Your Dragon 2 received largely positive reviews (including ours), and has done stellar business internationally (racking up $599 million; $100 million more than the Hiccup’s first outing), so fans of the much loved children’s franchise will be disappointed to learn that How To train Your Dragon 3 has been officially delayed until 2017.
With both writer/director Dean Deblois and producer Bonnie Arnold still sttached to the film, it’s unclear exactly why the threequel has been delayed at this point, but the voice cast are also all still scheduled to return, though US audiences won’t get to hear them until June 9th 2017, and if release schedules stay the same, it’ll be roughly a month after that for UK fans.
