Adapted from Nelson Mandela’s best-selling autobiography of the same name, the upcoming biopic The Long Walk to Freedom is due to be directed by The Other Boleyn Girl‘s Justin Chadwick, and has just found it’s leading actor in The Wire‘s Idris Elba.
Written by Gladiator‘s William Nicholson, The Long Walk to Freedom will chronicle Mandela’s life from his early childhood upbringing in a small village, through to his battle against apartheid, the 27 years he spent in prison, his inauguration as South Africa’s first democratically elected president, and beyond, and will be filmed in a number of key African locations; including the very prisons where Mandela spent so much time.
