Important Cast Member Added to The Dark Knight Rises

While the announcement of a single actor being cast in a movie such as The Dark Knight Rises; the upcoming third and final Batman movie from writer/director Christopher Nolan (Inception); wouldn’t usually present a spoiler (particularly as the majority of the cast, and villains have already been announced), the most recently named cast member wasn’t officially announced, was simply spotted filming a secretive scene on the London set, and will be named after the following paragraph.

We already know that Christian Bale (The Fighter) will return as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and take on new villains Bane (Tom hardy, Inception) and Selina Kyle/Catwoman (Anne Hathaway, Alice in Wonderland), with the help of Alfred (Michael Caine, Harry Brown), Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman, Leon), and Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman, Vruce Almighty), but now also know that another villain from the previous films will be making a comeback.

Josh Pence (The Social Network) has been signed on to the film for sometime, to appear as a younger version of Ra’s Al Ghul, but Hitfix are now reporting that Liam Neeson (Taken) has not only visited the London set, but filmed a scene as Ra’s Al Ghul (the role he originally portrayed in Batman Begins).

While that nugget of information probably raises more questions than it answers; didn’t he die in the first movie? will it just be a flashback scene? has he died and come-back? does that mean the set photos from a few weeks ago were the famous Lazarus Pits (which in the comics are used to resurrect Ra’s)? and is Nolan introducing a supernatural element to his so far realistic re-telling of the Batman story?; it’s nevertheless an interesting film fact, and one that fans will have to wait until July 20th 2012 (the film’s official release date) to fully understand, as Warner Bros. have already refused to comment, and Nolan is known for being notoriously tight-lipped.
