Many people thought he was the true star of The Avengers (they obviously weren’t watching when the green guy was on screen) and should be pleased to know that not only is Tony Stark/Iron Man returning to the big screen with his latest solo adventure next year, but the first official picture from Iron Man 3 was released released online, and is now available to view below.
Whilst not visible in the official still, it was recently reported that Iron Patriot (a star-spangled Iron Man who’s not exactly Stark’s best friend) had been seen on set; a rumour which has now proved to be false, as the new spangly suit has been revealed as an updated version of the War Machine armour first seen in Iron Man 2, and scheduled to once again be worn by a returning Don Cheadle (who actually does play Stark’s best friend James Rhodes).
Along with returning stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Jon Favreau, and the voice of Paul Bettany (as Pepper Potts, Happy Hogan, and Stark’s computer system Jarvis, respectively), which has been, Robert Downey Jr. will once again be portraying the cocky hero Tony STark/Iron Man in Iron Man 3; which is being directed by Shane black (Lethal Weapon), and is currently filming in North Carolina.
Ben Kingsley (Shutter Island) will also co-star as Mandarin; the comic book villain who was presumed to be Iron Man 3’s big bad, but will reportedly be taking something of a backseat in favour of Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce, Prometheus); for the film which is due to be released on May 3rd in both the US and UK.
