While the first film may have been forgotten by many, and news on the second appeared to have fizzled out, Paramount have now confirmed there will be a Jack Reacher sequel, and the official Jack Reacher 2 release date is set for October 21st 2016 (in the US).
Judging by the original’s release schedule. it’ll likely land in the UK around the same time (probably a few days later), and once more see Tom Cruise (most recently seen in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) returning to the role of Jack Reacher himself; the all-action hero created by novelist Lee Child.
Ed Zwick (The Last Samurai) will be directing from a script he’ll be co-writing, based on Child’s 2013 novel Never Go Back; the 18th Reacher novel, which sees Jack returning to his old military base only to face charges regarding a violent incident and be slapped with a paternity case (whilst he fails to remember either).
Shooting is set to begin in November, and will likely see Cruise following Jack Reacher 2 with Mission: Impossible 6; which Paramount is planning to release in 2017.
