With Kingsman: The Secret Service opening nationwide yesterday (you can read our review of the surprisingly fun film here), and an impressive back catalogue of work which includes the likes of Kick-Ass and X-Men:First Class, Jane Goldman has just taken on her latest project; adapting a screenplay for Fables.
Created by Bill Willingham, Fables is a DC/Vertigo Comics tale which involves numerous fairytale creatures being annexed from their homes by ‘the Adversary’, and setting up their own hidden community in modern day New York called Fabletown. It’s a complicated story to master and adapt for the screen, but producer David Heyman believes it’s a “very human” take, one filled with “vivid characters”, and one which will “be pretty great” when Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair) eventually gets round to directing it.
