Action star Jean-Claude Van Damme will be joining the ranks of washed-up old actors doing shows revolving around a slightly fictional version of themselves.
According to THR, Van Damme will star in the Amazon exclusive series as “a version of himself – a famous actor and martial arts pro who comes out of retirement to resume his alter-ego: an undercover private contractor by the name of Jean-Claude Van Johnson. The comedy/action thriller will see Johnson’s cover as the lead role in a reimagined film version of Huckleberry Finn that lands him back in the midst of the danger he secretly always craves. It also brings him back in the orbit of Vanessa, his fellow operative and the love of his life that got away.” It will be Van Damme’s first television appearance.
Although that premise promises action, the show is reported to be more of a comedy. There’s also a rumour going around that David Schwimmer will show up along with a host of other actors. Believe it or not, the show is being executive produced by Ridley Scott as well as The Good Wife producer David W. Zucker. Writing will be Dave Callaham (The Expendables), and the pilot will be directed by Peter Atencio (Key and Peele).
