While there are a whole bunch of films in development revolving around the legendary musician Jimi Hendrix (mostly covering different periods of his life), the first to make it to the cinema screen has just graced the internet with its first trailer, and you can now see the official trailer for Jimi: All Is By My Side below.
Starring Outkast’s Andre 3000 as the titular guitar player (credited as Andre Benjamin here), All Is By My Side has been written and directed by 12 Years A Slave writer John Ridley, and traces the section of Jimi’s life (before he became famous and evolved into the rock legend we know him as today) when he lived in London, and the relationships he developed here (as well as the trouble he faced from the British police).
As the rights to much of the Hendrix back-catalogue remain so closely guarded and expensive, All Is By My Side will actually be released without featuring any of Jimi’s most famous tracks (no Purple Haze, no Foxy Lady, and no trace of The Wind Cries Mary); instead focussing entirely on the pre-fame portion of his life many people know so little about.
Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and Imogen Poots (Need For Speed) co-star as two of the most influential women in Jimi’s life (at the time), and will appear alongside Burn Gorman (Pacific Rim), Ruth Negga (World War Z), and Ashley Charles (Vampire Academy) when Jimi: All Is By My Side is released on August 8th in the UK, before making its official US release date on September 26th.
