Critics worldwide hated it, yet the public didn’t seem to mind too much, and after throwing upwards of $160 million at it, Universal had good cause to greenlight a sequel for spy-spoof Johnny English; the trailer for which has just been released online (over at Yahoo Movies), and is now available to view below.
Sprouting from the ever-popular Barclaycard adverts; which 20 years ago placed Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) in the role of bumbling spy Richard Latham; Johnny English 2 will once again see Atkinson reprising the role of the titular, bumbling, spy, who will begin the movie in a martial arts training camp, and finish it by attempting to foil a plot to assassinate a very important world leader.
Boasting a supporting cast that includes the likes of Gillian Anderson (The X-Files), Dominic West (The Wire), Rosamund Pike (Surrogates), Richard Schiff (Speed), and ex-James Bond star Pierce Brosnan, the Oliver Parker (St. Trinian’s) directed movie will obviously spoof a number of recognizable films and franchises (just from the trailer you can find some not so subtle references to Batman Begins, Casino Royale, and the Bourne movies), and will be released in the UK on October 7th, and likely earn a US release at a later date.
