After recently releasing the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer (reliving some fans’ reservations, yet failing to bowl over others), it seems as though there’s still plenty of work to do on the upcoming movie, as a recent casting announcement has just confirmed Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub will be voicing two major characters.
Knoxville (best known for his Jackass days, or movie career as a comedy-sidekick; as seen in Schwarzenegger’s The Last Stand) will be voicing the Turtles’ leader, Leonardo (an odd choice given his comedy background and Leo’s tendency to be the conservative member of the group), whilst Tony Shalhoub (Monk) will be the voice behind the Turtles’ mentor Splinter.
Whilst the Turtles on screen performances have all been completed using different actors, it’s apparently long been the plan to re-dub the voices (meaning the scene in the trailer which uses the voice of Lawless’ actor Noel Fisher as Michelangelo could end up changing) in the Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans) directed, Michael Bay (Transformers) produced, film.
Megan Fox (Transformers) stars as reporter April O’Neil, with William Fichtner (Drive Angry) picking up the part of Shredder, alongside co-stars Will Arnett (The Lego Movie), Whoopi Goldberg (Sister Act), and Danny Woodburn (Mirror Mirror), in the film which is due to be released on August 8th in the US, despite the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie not making its official UK release date until October 17th.
